The Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) provides funding for research projects in coal and steel. Supported projects cover core production processes; products and applications, quality control, utilisation and conversion of resources, safety at work, environmental protection by reducing CO2 emissions from coal use and steel production, and social issues.

The Active and Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) – as well as its predecessor the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme – aims to create better conditions of life for the older adults and to strengthen the industrial opportunities in Europe through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and by supporting innovative solutions. EDCTP aims to accelerate the development of new or improved drugs, vaccines, microbicides and diagnostics against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as well as other poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on phase II and III clinical trials.

The overarching goal of EMPIR is to address the challenges faced by the European Metrology Research System and to maximise the benefits of improved measurement solutions for Europe. The overall objectives of EMPIR are thus to provide integrated and fit-for-purpose metrology solutions supporting innovation and industrial competitiveness and measurement technologies to tackle societal challenges such as health, environment and energy including support to policy development and implementation; and to create an integrated European Metrology Research system with critical mass and active engagement at regional, national, European and international level.

Eurostars aims to support research-performing small and medium enterprises, which develop innovative products, processes and services, to gain competitive advantage. Eurostars does this by providing funding for transnational innovation projects, the products of which are then rapidly commercialized.
